Mississippi dedicates highway to Colonel Donnell Berry
State officials dedicated the Colonel Donnell Berry Memorial Highway on U.S. Highway 49 in Yazoo County to honor the legacy of Colonel Donnell Berry, the Mississippi Department of Transportation said in a Facebook post.
Berry served more than 35 years with the Mississippi Highway Patrol and the Mississippi Department of Public Safety, including terms as chief of the Highway Patrol and assistant commissioner of Public Safety, the post said. The dedication recognizes his leadership, integrity and long record of public service.
The Mississippi Department of Transportation thanked state leaders, local officials and the Berry family for participating in the commemoration, saying the memorial stands as a lasting tribute to a public servant who helped shape the agency and inspired generations of law enforcement officers.
The Mississippi Highway Patrol is the statewide law enforcement agency charged with traffic enforcement and public safety on state highways. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
