The Mississippi Highway Patrol said in a Facebook Reel that its holiday travel period begins tonight at midnight and continues through midnight on Sunday.
The agency urged motorists to buckle up, drive sober and stay alert wherever they are celebrating the Independence Day weekend.
The Mississippi Highway Patrol is the statewide law enforcement agency responsible for enforcing traffic laws and promoting highway safety on state roads and interstates. Patrols and public safety campaigns are common around major holidays when more people travel.
Holiday weekends often bring increased traffic and heightened crash risk, and officials frequently remind drivers to take basic safety precautions. “We hope you enjoy a safe and happy Independence Day weekend,” the agency said in the social post.
