MEMA closes disaster service centers for Labor Day holiday
The Mississippi Emergency Management Agency said its Disaster Service Centers in Hancock, Harrison, Stone and Pearl River counties will be closed Saturday, Sept. 5, through Monday, Sept. 7, in observance of the Labor Day holiday.
Residents have until 6 p.m. tonight to visit a center before the holiday, MEMA said. The centers are scheduled to reopen Tuesday, Sept. 8, at noon.
Disaster Service Centers provide residents with information and assistance related to emergency response and recovery, including guidance after storms, evacuations and other local emergencies. Temporary closures for holidays can affect access to resources for people who rely on the centers for information and support.
MEMA coordinates the state’s response to natural and man-made disasters and operates the centers to help residents navigate relief services. Residents who need help should plan ahead and seek services before the closures, MEMA said. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
