MEMA opens Disaster Survivor Assistance centers in nine Mississippi counties

Mississippi Emergency Management Agency said in a Facebook post that Disaster Survivor Assistance centers for federal disaster declaration DR-4899 will open Monday, May 18, 2026, at 8:00 a.m. in Adams, Bolivar, Claiborne, Issaquena, Jefferson, Sharkey, Sunflower, Warren and Washington counties.

The agency said Disaster Recovery Centers for DR-4899 in Alcorn, Benton, Lafayette, Leflore, Panola and Yazoo counties remain open. MEMA noted the application deadline for assistance is June 10, and that all DRC and DSA locations will close Saturday, May 23.

MEMA, the state agency that coordinates emergency response and recovery in collaboration with federal partners such as the Federal Emergency Management Agency, posts location and service information to help survivors access aid. Disaster Survivor Assistance teams typically help residents register for federal help and provide information on recovery options, while Disaster Recovery Centers offer in-person support from state and federal personnel.

The agency reminded residents that receiving federal assistance through these centers will not affect Social Security, Medicare or Medicaid benefits. Officials encourage affected residents to visit a center before the stated closing date to register for help or get answers to questions about the application process.

We will provide more information as it becomes available.
