MDWFP restricts boat access at two state parks for Fourth of July events

JACKSON — The Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries and Parks announced temporary restrictions on boat access at two state parks during Fourth of July holiday events tied to America 250 celebrations.

At Paul B. Johnson State Park, boat access to the lake will be closed from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. on July 3 while water-based activities and holiday events take place, MDWFP said.

At Percy Quin State Park, the agency said boat access will be limited throughout the day on July 3 and July 4 because of scheduled Independence Day celebrations. MDWFP said only overnight guests at Percy Quin will be allowed lake access during the restrictions and those visitors must coordinate with park staff for designated launch and retrieval times.

MDWFP said the temporary restrictions apply only to boat access and that visitors may still fish from the banks of the lakes during closure periods. The agency said the adjustments are intended to help ensure public safety during the holiday weekend.

America 250 is a national observance marking the 250th anniversary of American independence in 2026. Additional information about America 250 celebrations at Mississippi state parks is available through MDWFP. This is a developing story and will be updated as more details emerge.
