Oxford police urge safe Fourth of July, remind fireworks require permit
The Oxford Police Department wished residents a happy Independence Day and urged safety as the nation marks its 250th birthday, the department said in a Facebook post.
The post reminded residents that fireworks are prohibited within Oxford city limits without a permit. The department said the reminder aims to promote public safety and compliance with local ordinances during holiday celebrations.
Officials also advised people who plan to consume alcohol to arrange safe transportation, suggesting rideshare services, a designated driver or other safe options, the post said. Holiday weekends historically bring increased travel and gatherings, and police agencies routinely encourage advance planning to reduce crashes and injuries.
The Oxford Police Department is the city’s primary law enforcement agency and often uses social media to share safety reminders and local rules. The post included celebratory messages and community-focused hashtags. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
