Vicksburg police urge safe Fourth of July, warn against firing weapons
Vicksburg Police Department urged residents to celebrate a safe and responsible Fourth of July and reminded the public that discharging a firearm within city limits is illegal and carries a minimum penalty of 30 days in jail and a $1,000 fine, the department said on its Facebook page.
The department encouraged people to let fireworks be the only thing lit this holiday and to take common-sense precautions when celebrating with family and friends, the post said.
Officials also warned against driving while impaired and urged people to plan ahead by designating a sober driver or arranging a safe ride home, noting that alcohol-related crashes increase during holiday periods.
Vicksburg Police asked residents to do their part to keep the community safe so everyone can enjoy the holiday and offered holiday greetings to the public. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
