Hinds County sheriff fires detention officer after internal probe
Hinds County Sheriff’s Office said Wednesday it has terminated a detention officer effective this evening after an internal investigation found major policy violations related to the July 3 beating death of Mr. Butler at the Raymond Detention Center.
The officer had been placed on paid administrative leave while the inquiry proceeded, the office said in a press release posted to its Facebook page. The sheriff’s office said the termination follows “significant findings” uncovered during the ongoing review.
The internal investigation remains active, and the sheriff’s office said additional disciplinary actions could follow as examiners evaluate further findings. The agency said it is committed to accountability and transparency throughout the process.
The release said that if alleged criminal conduct is identified during the administrative probe, the information will be forwarded immediately to the appropriate law enforcement agency responsible for criminal investigation. At this time, the office provided no further updates or comments. This is a developing story and will be updated as more details emerge.
