Jackson police investigate homicide, aggravated assault on N. Prentiss Street

Jackson Police Department said it is investigating a homicide and an aggravated assault after shots were fired Tuesday night in the 300 block of N. Prentiss Street.

The department said a call came in at approximately 10:55 p.m. Witnesses told officers four Black men were standing in front of an apartment complex when a brown SUV, possibly a Yukon or Tahoe, traveling on Prentiss Street fired shots in their direction.

A 20-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene after suffering a gunshot wound, the department said. A 19-year-old Black man also was shot and was taken to a local hospital in stable condition, the post said.

The department said the death is the 35th homicide of the year. The Yukon and Tahoe are full-size sport utility vehicles commonly made by General Motors, the department added when describing the suspect vehicle.

The Jackson Police Department said the investigation is ongoing. This is a developing story and will be updated as more details emerge.
