Jackson Police Department reports strong turnout at listening session

Jackson Police Department said in a Facebook post that it drew a strong turnout at a listening session held last night at Christ United Methodist Church and posted photos from the event.

Listening sessions are a form of community engagement in which residents can raise concerns, share experiences and offer input on public safety and policing. Police departments use them to hear directly from residents and to identify areas for improvement in training, policy and community outreach.

The department’s post included a prompt saying, “Here’s what the community is saying…,” indicating it is soliciting feedback and reaction from attendees and others who view the photos. The Facebook post did not provide details about specific comments or any immediate policy changes.

Community listening sessions are part of broader efforts in many cities to build trust between law enforcement and residents and to increase transparency. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
