Hinds County Sheriff honors officers during National Police Week
Hinds County Sheriff Tyree D. Jones said in a Facebook post that during National Police Week his office honors “the brave men and women who serve our communities with courage and dedication, and we remember the heroes who made the ultimate sacrifice.” He added, “Thank you for your service,” and included an American flag emoji.
National Police Week is an annual observance dedicated to recognizing law enforcement officers for their service and to remembering those who have died in the line of duty. Communities and agencies across the country use the week to hold ceremonies, pay tribute to fallen officers and reflect on the risks of policing.
The Hinds County Sheriff’s Office is the primary county law enforcement agency in Hinds County, Mississippi, which includes the state capital, Jackson. Statements from local officials during Police Week often aim to show support for officers and families affected by officer-involved tragedies.
Jones’ message underscores the local department’s recognition of the sacrifices made by law enforcement. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
