Investigators probe Memorial Day shooting in Picayune, Mississippi

Pearl River County Sheriff’s Department said deputies and investigators responded to a shooting Monday, May 25, 2026, at approximately 6:30 p.m. near the intersection of Lilac Drive and Clover Drive in Picayune, Mississippi. The department said two people suffered gunshot wounds that were not considered life-threatening.

The department’s release said witnesses and complainants reported multiple people were present and that a physical altercation occurred, during which numerous shots were fired by more than one gunman. No arrests have been made and the investigation remains active, the release said.

The release directed anyone with information to contact Crime Stoppers, including by downloading the P3 Tips app or through other Crime Stoppers reporting methods. The release said Crime Stoppers pays cash rewards for information leading to felony arrests and that qualifying information must be submitted through Crime Stoppers.

Picayune is the county seat of Pearl River County in southern Mississippi. Memorial Day is a federal holiday often marked by gatherings and events, which local officials say can increase the number of people present at public locations.
