Free summer meals offered to Tunica County children through July

TUNICA COUNTY, Miss. — Families in Tunica County can receive free breakfast and lunch for children every Tuesday through July as part of the Summer Food Service Program, organizers said. The YMCA of Memphis & the Mid-South is partnering with local organizations to provide the meals while school is out.

The program is funded through the State of Tennessee, organizers said. Meals will be distributed Tuesdays at two Tunica County locations, and children will receive healthy snacks and shelf-stable milk in addition to breakfast and lunch items, organizers said.

According to program information, the Summer Food Service Program runs from May 22 through Aug. 1. Meal services will not be offered on Memorial Day or July 4 observances.

The Summer Food Service Program is a federal effort administered by state agencies to ensure children have access to nutritious meals when school is not in session. Additional Mississippi meal distribution sites and information are available through the state’s Summer Food Service Program resources. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
