Disaster service centers open for Mississippi storm victims

The Mississippi Emergency Management Agency said Disaster Service Centers will open Tuesday, May 26, through Wednesday, June 10, for victims of Winter Storm Fern under disaster declaration DR-4899.

The centers will operate in Alcorn, Benton, Carroll, Coahoma, Lafayette, Leflore, Marshall, Montgomery, Panola, Pontotoc, Tallahatchie, Tishomingo and Yazoo counties, the agency said on its Facebook page. The centers are for residents who need to apply for federal assistance or have questions about the disaster assistance process.

Hours are Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Saturdays, 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. The centers will be closed on Sundays. The application deadline is June 10, the agency said.

The agency noted that receiving these benefits will not affect anyone’s Social Security, Medicare or Medicaid benefits. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
