Disaster service centers open for Mississippi storm survivors

Disaster service centers are open for survivors of the May 6-7 severe storms and tornadoes in Mississippi, a Facebook post said. The post said six centers are available to help residents whose homes or property were impacted.

Officials said the centers can help people with their Federal Emergency Management Agency applications, provide information about available state and local resources and allow residents to speak with U.S. Small Business Administration representatives about disaster loans.

The centers are located in Franklin County (new location at Franklin County Public Library, 38 S. 1st Street, Meadville), Lamar County, Lawrence County, Lincoln County (two locations) and Wilkinson County. Hours are Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., Saturday from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m., and Sunday closed, the post said.

Disaster recovery centers provide in-person assistance to help survivors complete applications, learn about housing and financial help and connect with federal and local recovery partners. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
