Disaster Service Centers in five counties are open to residents affected by the May 6-7 severe storms, the Mississippi Emergency Management Agency said. The centers offer in-person access to recovery specialists from MEMA, the Federal Emergency Management Agency and the U.S. Small Business Administration.
The centers operate Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturday from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m., MEMA said. Residents can meet face-to-face with specialists to discuss recovery options, eligibility and next steps for federal and state assistance.
Officials said residents who cannot visit a Disaster Service Center may apply online at DisasterAssistance.gov, call 800-621-FEMA (3362) or use the free FEMA mobile app. MEMA also directs residents to its disaster resources page for more information.
FEMA coordinates federal disaster assistance and the SBA offers disaster loans to help homeowners, renters and businesses recover. When applying, residents should use disaster number DR-4922. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
