Officials warned heat index values could reach between 105 and 115 degrees Fahrenheit, with high temperatures in the mid to upper 90s Fahrenheit. The agency said heat-related illnesses can develop quickly, especially during prolonged outdoor activity.
MEMA urged residents to take precautions: drink plenty of water even if not thirsty; limit outdoor activity during the hottest part of the day; take frequent breaks in air-conditioned spaces; wear lightweight, light-colored clothing; and never leave children or pets in a parked vehicle. The agency also advised checking on older adults, children, neighbors and people without air conditioning.
