Jackson, Miss. — The University of Mississippi Medical Center shared archival photos from commencements in the 1970s, 1980s and 1990s as it prepares for its 70th annual graduation ceremony.
UMMC said in a Facebook post that the images show proud families, nervous graduates and the walk across the commencement stage long before livestreams, smartphones and social media. The center said the photos are a reminder that each graduating class becomes part of something bigger as students step across the stage ready to serve patients, communities and the future of health care.
UMMC, the state’s academic medical center based in Jackson, trains physicians, nurses and other health professionals and plays a central role in Mississippi’s health care education and clinical services. The institution’s commencement ceremonies mark the formal entry of graduating students into the health workforce.
UMMC said it will livestream its 70th annual commencement at 10 a.m. tomorrow at umc.edu/commencement-live. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
