Bob Moses Lecture Series to debut at Mississippi history museums

The inaugural Bob Moses Lecture Series will be held at noon Wednesday, September 30, during #HistoryIsLunch at the Museum of Mississippi History and Mississippi Civil Rights Museum. Charles Payne, Henry Rutgers Distinguished Professor of African American Studies at Rutgers University-Newark, will speak.

Payne will discuss how civil rights activist Ella Baker influenced Moses’s approach to organizing, including his work with the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee and the founding of the Algebra Project.

The free event will also be streamed live on the Mississippi Department of Archives and History’s Facebook page and YouTube channel. Copies of the book I’ve Got the Light of Freedom: The Organizing Tradition and the Mississippi Freedom Struggle will be available for purchase, followed by a book signing.
