Dr. Nathan Tullos said films such as Indiana Jones and Jurassic Park inspired a childhood dream of adventure that helped shape his path into science, the University of Mississippi Medical Center said.
Speaking at UMMC’s Last Lecture, Tullos described how that early curiosity evolved into a career he characterized as grounded in gratitude, humility, passion and hope, UMMC said in a news post.
The Last Lecture format, in which faculty reflect on career lessons and life priorities, is designed to connect students, staff and the public with the personal stories behind academic work. UMMC, the state’s academic medical center, hosts the series to highlight teaching, research and service across its schools and programs.
The account of Tullos’ remarks underscores the role popular culture and curiosity can play in motivating scientific careers and mentoring the next generation of researchers and clinicians.
