The Kemper County Sheriff’s Office is commemorating the nearly 3,000 people killed in the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks, along with the families affected and the people who responded to the danger, according to a message attributed to Sheriff James R. Moore.
The message remembers firefighters, law enforcement officers, first responders and other Americans who moved toward danger to help others. It also honors members of the armed forces who continued that service in the years afterward, including some who did not return home.
Twenty-five years later, the office said it pauses to remember every life lost, every family changed and every hero who answered the call.
