Lafayette County EMA commemorated the lives lost in the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks, including first responders who ran toward danger and families whose lives were changed by the tragedy.
The agency said the attacks exposed the need for stronger communication, coordination and preparedness among agencies and across every level of government. In the years afterward, emergency management, fire service, law enforcement, emergency medical services, public health and other partners were brought together under a more unified, all-hazards approach to emergency response.
The post also said lessons from Sept. 11 strengthened practices including interoperable communication, unified command, coordinated planning, information sharing and partnerships. It described the anniversary as a reminder of the importance of preparedness and collaboration in serving communities before, during and after emergencies.
Lafayette County EMA said it remains committed to carrying forward those lessons through service, preparedness and resilience.
