The Southaven Fire Department is remembering the nearly 3,000 people who died in the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks, including 343 FDNY firefighters who died responding to the disaster.
In a statement, the department also honored firefighters, law enforcement officers, emergency medical personnel, military members, civilians and others whose lives were lost or permanently changed by the attacks. It remembered those who responded in the days, weeks and months afterward, as well as people who later died from illnesses related to their service at Ground Zero.
The department said the anniversary remains a reminder to the fire service of courage, sacrifice, brotherhood and a commitment to serving others despite danger. It said its pledge to remember the victims continues through service to the community and care for others.
