Wilson headlines Toppers SSAC honors as freshman of year

MONTGOMERY, Ala. — Kaedyn Wilson was named Southern States Athletic Conference Freshman of the Year after a breakout debut season for Blue Mountain Christian.

Wilson set a school record in the 10,000 meters at the SSAC Championships, finishing in 39:59.42 to earn a bronze medal. She followed that performance with a second podium finish in the 5,000 meters, taking bronze in 18:50.63.

Head Coach Phillip Laney said Wilson’s consistency and competitiveness lifted the Toppers across the conference. “Kaedyn has been consistent for us all year. She shows up, puts in the work, and competes the right way,” Laney said. “To come in as a freshman and score the way she did at conference, set a school record, and get on the podium twice says a lot about who she is as a runner. This is a well-earned honor.”

Blue Mountain Christian also had strong academic and character recognition from the SSAC. Eleven Toppers were named to the SSAC All-Academic Team; honorees included Lexie Faulkner, Abby Laney, Leah Montgomery, Lauren Paul, Jonah Barnhardt, Lukas Dykes, Braxton Enzor, Sammuel Hopper, Erick Flores and Lelan Boulden.

The Toppers placed two athletes on the SSAC Champions of Character Team: Ella Shepherd and Jonah Barnhardt. The SSAC is the conference that organizes competition and postseason honors for member institutions in the region. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
