Wilson headlines Toppers’ SSAC honors as Freshman of Year

MONTGOMERY, Ala. — Blue Mountain Christian freshman Kaedyn Wilson was named Southern States Athletic Conference Freshman of the Year after a breakout debut that included a school-record finish at the SSAC Championships.

Wilson ran a school-record 39:59.42 in the 10,000 meters to take the bronze and followed that with a second-place podium finish in the 5,000 meters, crossing in 18:50.63 to claim another bronze medal.

Head Coach Phillip Laney said, “Kaedyn has been consistent for us all year. She shows up, puts in the work, and competes the right way. To come in as a freshman and score the way she did at conference, set a school record, and get on the podium twice says a lot about who she is as a runner. This is a well-earned honor.”

The Toppers were well represented across conference awards. Eleven Blue Mountain Christian athletes earned spots on the SSAC All-Academic Team: Lexie Faulkner, Abby Laney, Leah Montgomery, Lauren Paul, Jonah Barnhardt, Lukas Dykes, Braxton Enzor, Sammuel Hopper, Erick Flores and Lelan Boulden. Jonah Barnhardt and Ella Shepherd were named to the NAIA Champions of Character Team for leadership and integrity.

The Southern States Athletic Conference is an NAIA conference that organizes competition among small colleges in the region. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
