Blue Mountain Christian volleyball lost to receiving-votes Lindsey Wilson in four sets and No. 10 Cumberlands in three sets during a doubleheader Saturday at Biggers Sports Center in Columbia, Kentucky. The Volley Toppers fell to 4-6.
Lindsey Wilson won 25-18, 25-8, 13-25, 25-18. Blue Mountain Christian responded after the first two sets by recording 10 kills and hitting .222 in the third while holding Lindsey Wilson to a .067 hitting percentage. Marissa Gerleman led the Toppers with eight kills, followed by Salice Speed with seven and Valeria Velez with five.
Blue Mountain Christian recorded 12 aces to Lindsey Wilson’s seven. Abbi Williams, Speed and Sydney Tague each had three aces. Williams and Velez collected 16 digs apiece, while Olivia Lewis had five total blocks and Mattie Hopper added three. Olivia Domino finished with 14 assists and Tague had 12.
Cumberlands completed the doubleheader with a 25-16, 25-20, 25-19 sweep. Blue Mountain Christian recorded four aces to the Patriots’ two and had seven total blocks to Cumberlands’ four.
Speed led Blue Mountain Christian against Cumberlands with nine kills and 10 digs. Gerleman added six kills while hitting .222, and Lewis had five kills on nine attacks with a .444 hitting percentage. Hopper recorded four kills and five blocks, while Gerleman added four blocks.
Williams led the Toppers with 11 digs, followed by Speed with 10 and Velez with eight. Tague had a team-high 11 assists, and Domino added nine. Blue Mountain Christian will play its first home match against Freed-Hardeman on Tuesday.
