Victim, suspect found in Jackson after reported kidnapping

Jackson Police Department said Tuesday afternoon that both the victim and the suspect in a reported kidnapping were found in Jackson.

Earlier, police had been searching for a 35-year-old man after a witness reported around 8 a.m. that his goddaughter had been taken from a home, authorities said. Investigators said the suspect allegedly pushed in an HVAC unit, removed the woman from her bed, repeatedly assaulted her and forced her into a white Ford Escape with Lamar County tags.

Police identified the suspect as Timmie Davis Jr., described as a white male with brown hair. The victim was identified as 38-year-old Amber Mason, described as about 5 feet 6 inches tall, weighing about 150 pounds, with short brownish-red hair. Police said she was last seen wearing a maroon sweater, blue jean shorts and no shoes and that they believed she was in danger.

Investigators said a similar incident occurred about three weeks earlier when Davis allegedly abducted Mason from her home and held her for about two weeks in Sumrall while repeatedly beating and assaulting her. Officers went to an address on Broom Street and spoke with a resident identified as the suspect’s mother, but police said the address was later cleared.

The Jackson Police Department said the FBI and the county sheriff’s department were notified and involved in the search. Authorities asked anyone who sold or transferred a white Ford Escape to Timothy Davis Jr. in the Sumrall area to contact investigators and noted Davis has a criminal history that includes burglary, felony mischief, auto theft, trespassing and grand larceny. Anyone with information is asked to call Jackson police at 601-960-1800. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
