Three Jackson State tennis players finish undefeated at Tiger Invite

Three Jackson State tennis players finished undefeated at the season’s first fall tournament, the Tiger Invite, hosted by the Tigers in Jackson on Sept. 11-12. Jackson State recorded 32 total wins across the two days of competition.

Paula Corbalan opened the tournament with a 6-1 doubles victory alongside Tiara Alvarez over Co-Lin’s Ruri Takeuchi and Ivet Balague. Corbalan then defeated Mississippi Christian’s Emily Buchanan and Alcorn’s Ivanna De Gregorio in singles Friday.

On Saturday, Corbalan teamed with Mariia Iordanova to defeat Alcorn’s Amelia Tatafu and Natalija Nikolic 6-1 in doubles. She completed an undefeated weekend with a 7-5, 6-1 singles victory over Dillard’s Gia Pereira.

Freshman Larisa Tudora also went undefeated in her first competition for Jackson State. She defeated Co-Lin’s Domencia Gruezo 2-6, 6-2, 10-6; Mississippi Christian’s Esila Toklu 6-7, 6-3, 10-7; and Alcorn’s Natalija Nikolic 6-2, 6-4. Tudora and Polina Georgieva went 3-0 in doubles.

On the men’s side, freshman Devesh Sarawanan went undefeated in singles. He beat Alcorn’s Jose Zenteno 7-6(4), 6-3, and Co-Lin’s Jack Farrel 6-1, 6-3, before closing the tournament with a 3-6, 6-0, 10-7 victory over Dillard’s Majdi Abdelwaheed.
