Montevallo shuts out Delta State 2-0 in men’s soccer

The Delta State University men's soccer team lost to the University of Montevallo 2-0 Saturday afternoon at Delta Field in Cleveland, Mississippi.

Montevallo took control early. Nolan Peffer scored in the fourth minute, and Joaquin Wladdimiro added a goal in the 21st minute to give the Falcons a two-goal lead.

Delta State had eight shots, including three on goal, but Montevallo goalkeeper Andre Etcheverry recorded the shutout. Cyrus Gulati led the Statesmen with three shots, while Elijah Belk and Callum Black also contributed offensively.

Montevallo held advantages of 21-8 in shots and 9-2 in corner kicks. Delta State goalkeeper Daniel Santema made six saves.

Delta State, 2-7-1 overall and 0-4-0 in Gulf South Conference play, will face Trevecca Nazarene University in Music City next Saturday to begin Gulf South Conference play.
