Southern Miss soccer heads to Nicholls for final nonconference match
Southern Miss soccer will play its final nonconference match Thursday, traveling to Thibodaux, Louisiana, for a 7 p.m. matchup with Nicholls at Thibodaux Regional Sports Complex. The Golden Eagles enter with a 2-2-2 record, while Nicholls is 2-2-3.
Southern Miss has scored 11 goals across its last three matches and 15 through six games. Ava Bynes leads the team with three goals and seven points, while Ryan Smith has two goals and two assists. Oliwia Loeman and Shaelynn Quick have each scored twice.
Nicholls has scored 26 goals in seven matches and averages 17.6 shots per contest. Four Colonels have four goals apiece, including Olyvia Pugh, who leads the team with 12 points from four goals and four assists.
Thursday's match will be the 10th meeting between the programs. Southern Miss holds a 7-1-1 series advantage, has won five consecutive meetings and is 3-0-1 in Thibodaux. The Golden Eagles won the most recent meeting 6-0 in 2023.
Southern Miss will open Sun Belt Conference play against James Madison on Friday, Sept. 18, at 4 p.m. at the Marshall Bell Track & Field/Soccer Complex.
