Ole Miss soccer falls 2-0 to Texas at home

Ole Miss soccer lost 2-0 to Texas on Sunday afternoon at Ole Miss Soccer Stadium, despite holding advantages in shots and corner kicks.

Texas opened the scoring 70 seconds into the match when Ashlyn Anderson scored her third goal of the season on an assist from Alicia Riggins. Ole Miss goalkeeper Bayliss Flynn made three saves during a five-minute stretch, stopping attempts by Teaghan Irvin in the 17th minute, Sarah Granno in the 18th and Maizy Kluksdal in the 22nd. The Rebels entered halftime trailing 1-0.

Texas doubled its lead at 61:34 when Ava McDonald scored her fourth goal of the season off an assist from Vivian Geesbreght. Ole Miss earned four corner kicks during the final 25 minutes, but Flynn made her fifth save on Bella Leonard's attempt in the 81st minute to preserve the shutout.

Ole Miss finished with a 16-13 advantage in shots and led 7-4 in corner kicks, while both teams put five attempts on goal. Granno led the Rebels with three shots; Evie Ewing, Ava Ghoreishi and Ryann Reynolds had two each. Taylor Prigge played all 90 minutes in goal for Ole Miss and made three saves.

Ole Miss, which is 7-5-0 overall and 0-4-0 in SEC play, returns to the road Friday against Alabama in Tuscaloosa. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. CT.
