Delta State men’s soccer falls 4-0 to Christian Brothers
Delta State University’s men’s soccer team lost its final non-conference match 4-0 to Christian Brothers University on Wednesday afternoon at Delta Field in Cleveland, Mississippi.
Christian Brothers took an early lead on an own goal in the 11th minute, then added three second-half goals. The Buccaneers scored on a penalty kick immediately after halftime and added goals in the 79th and 86th minutes.
Christian Brothers held a 16-11 advantage in shots, with five shots on goal producing four scores. Delta State had two shots on goal, but Grant Clothier made two saves to preserve the shutout. The teams each had five corner kicks.
Daniel Huerta led Delta State with three shots, including two on target, while Romario Castro had four attempts. Max Alonso made two saves and played all 90 minutes in goal for the Statesmen.
Christian Brothers improved to 2-3, while Delta State moved to 2-3-1. The Statesmen will begin conference play at home against Union University next Wednesday.
