Mississippi State men’s golf finishes fourth at Canadian Collegiate Invitational

Mississippi State finished fourth at the Canadian Collegiate Invitational in Foot’s Bay, Ontario, after posting a three-round team score of 871, or 19 over par. The Bulldogs were the only program in the event to place more than three players inside the top 20.

Arth Sinha led Mississippi State by finishing 12th with rounds of 70, 73 and 73 for a 216 total, 3 over par. It was his best finish as a Bulldog and his second top-15 result at Mississippi State.

Freshman Finn Burkholder tied for 13th in his Bulldog debut after rounds of 71, 68 and 78 for a 217 total, 4 over par. His second-round 68 was 3 under par, and he was the only Bulldog to record two rounds of par or better in the tournament.

Bryson Hughes tied for 17th with a 219 total, 6 over par, after rounds of 68, 76 and 75. The result was his second top-20 finish as a Bulldog and the second-best finish of his career in the Maroon and White.

Gavin Isbell tied for 18th, his best finish at Mississippi State, with rounds of 73, 70 and 77 for a 220 total, 7 over par. His second-round 70 included four birdies and two eagles, tying him for the most eagles in the field.

Mississippi State coach Dusty Smith said the team had strong moments but also made costly mental errors. He said the third round featured difficult conditions and that the team had areas to address before its next event.

The Bulldogs are scheduled to return to competition Oct. 5-6 at the Cullen Brown Collegiate in Lexington, Kentucky.
