Mississippi Christian falls to West Ala. in three-set volleyball loss

Mississippi Christian lost to West Ala. 3-0 on Friday in Livingston, Alabama, falling 25-18, 25-17 and 25-19. West Ala. finished with 39 kills and a .306 hitting percentage, compared with 32 kills and a .026 percentage for the Choctaws.

Mary Grace Foster led Mississippi Christian with 13 kills and 13.5 points while hitting .233. Meg Paparella had four service aces, 12 digs and five kills, while Reese Regner recorded a team-high 17 assists. Cydney Mitchell added eight kills and three block assists.

Mississippi Christian stayed close in the opening set before West Ala. broke a 17-17 tie with five consecutive points and won 25-18. In the second set, the Choctaws rallied from a 7-3 deficit to tie the score at 7-7, but West Ala. answered with six straight points and took a 14-8 lead before winning 25-17.

The Choctaws opened the third set with an 8-2 lead, including four consecutive Paparella service aces. West Ala. later moved in front 15-14, but Foster’s kill tied the score at 15-15. West Ala. then scored seven straight points and closed out the set 25-19.

Mississippi Christian will host Christian Brothers on Tuesday, Sept. 22, at 6 p.m. in Clinton, Mississippi.
