Millsaps men’s soccer splits Arkansas matches, defeating Hendrix 2-0

Millsaps College’s men’s soccer team split two matches in Arkansas, defeating Hendrix College 2-0 Friday night at Warrior Soccer Field before falling to Lyon College 2-1 Sunday at Marshall Huser Field.

Against Hendrix, Ellis Dykes scored his first goal of the season at 17:53, and Millsaps led 1-0 at halftime. Braden Walters added the second goal in the 57th minute.

Millsaps held a 13-6 advantage in shots and put 10 attempts on goal, compared with five for Hendrix. Edward Steinwand made five saves in 90 minutes to earn the shutout, while Reid Brenner led Millsaps with three shots.

Lyon took an early 1-0 lead at 9:33 Sunday, ending Millsaps’ five-plus-game shutout run. Zachary Diamond scored his first collegiate goal in the 15th minute to tie the match 1-1.

The match remained tied until Lyon scored in the 85th minute. Alden Davenport made two saves for Millsaps, which earned late corner kicks but could not find an equalizer before the final whistle.

Millsaps will return home Tuesday to face Tougaloo College at 6 p.m. at Harper Davis Field. Live video and live statistics will be available at gomajors.com.
