Hendrix defeats Millsaps 36-27 in back-and-forth game at Harper Davis Field

Hendrix College defeated Millsaps 36-27 in a back-and-forth game at Harper Davis Field in Jackson, Mississippi. The game remained within one possession until a late lateral play ended with Hendrix recovering the ball and returning it for a touchdown on the final snap.

Millsaps produced 278 rushing yards on 52 attempts and finished with 22 first downs, compared with 17 for Hendrix. Hendrix completed 25 of 35 passes for 387 yards and added 76 rushing yards. Millsaps recorded two interceptions and a fumble recovery, while Hendrix converted three of four red-zone trips.

Quarterback Quez Goss, making his first start of the season, passed for 127 yards and a touchdown and added 26 rushing yards. Tameron Patterson led the ground game with 29 carries for 173 yards and a touchdown. Sean Johnson caught five passes for 57 yards and scored his first touchdown as a Major.

Kyle Veal Jr. recorded seven tackles, an interception and a fumble recovery. He returned the fumble 40 yards for a touchdown and registered a quarterback hurry. Decorian Warren forced the fumble recovered by Veal.

Patterson's 34-yard rushing touchdown tied the score at 27-27 with 8:08 remaining. Hendrix answered with a 25-yard field goal with 3:57 left, then forced a turnover on downs with 1:05 remaining. Millsaps regained possession with two seconds left, but Hendrix recovered one of the laterals and returned it for the game's final points.

Millsaps enters a bye week before opening conference play at home against Rhodes College on Saturday, Oct. 3. The kickoff is scheduled for 5 p.m., with live coverage on FloCollege and live statistics at gomajors.com.
