McLean, Clark earn Gulf South Conference soccer honors

Mississippi Christian soccer players Harry McLean and Faith Clark earned weekly honors from the Gulf South Conference after standout performances for the Choctaws. McLean was recognized after scoring three goals for the men's team, while Clark was named the GSC Women's Soccer Defender of the Week after helping the Lady Choctaws win twice on the road.

McLean, a freshman forward from Motherwell, Scotland, scored twice in Mississippi Christian's 3-0 victory over Eckerd. He broke a scoreless tie in the 58th minute on an assist from Hayden Mulrooney and connected again with Mulrooney less than nine minutes later. McLean finished with four shots, including three on goal, as the Choctaws recorded their first win and shutout of the season.

McLean scored again Sunday against Florida Southern, equalizing in the 28th minute after Mississippi Christian fell behind 1-0. Florida Southern later won 2-1. Across the two matches, McLean totaled three goals on five shots, with four attempts on goal. Through four matches, he leads Mississippi Christian with four goals and eight points.

Clark helped anchor the women's defense during a 2-0 road trip through Oklahoma, playing 169 minutes across the victories. In a 1-0 win over Oklahoma Christian, the Lady Choctaws played with 10 players for approximately 85 minutes after an early red card. Oklahoma Christian recorded 12 shots and 10 corner kicks, but Mississippi Christian held firm before Caroline McCutchen scored the winner in the 84th minute.

Clark started again Saturday and played 89 minutes in a 4-2 victory over East Central in Ada, Oklahoma. Mississippi Christian led 3-0 at halftime and added a late insurance goal. The two victories improved the Lady Choctaws to 3-1, while Clark's award was the first GSC Defender of the Week honor for a Mississippi Christian women's soccer player this season.

Both Mississippi Christian soccer programs will turn their attention to Gulf South Conference play as they continue their early-season schedules.
