Lafayette wins first state softball championship

The 2026 Lafayette Commodores captured the school’s first state softball championship, a Facebook post announced. The social media post celebrated the milestone, saying the team had made history under a first-year head coach.

The Commodores swept Sumrall in the championship series, topping the opponent 7-5 in the first game and 9-8 in the second, the post said. The victories secured the state title and capped a season that culminated in back-to-back wins in the final.

The Facebook post identified Emily Norwood as the team’s first-year head coach and named Jenny Dreher the tournament MVP. The post included celebratory language and the hashtag #StateChamps.

State championships are often a major milestone for high school athletic programs and can have a lasting impact on school spirit and community recognition. This is the first state title in Lafayette school history, according to the post. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
