Mississippi State women’s golf moves into second at Mason Rudolph Championship

Mississippi State shot a tournament-best 5-under as a team in the second round of the Mason Rudolph Championship in Franklin, Tennessee, climbing three spots into second place before Sunday’s final round. The Bulldogs are at 5-under, three strokes behind Florida, which leads at 8-under.

Samantha Whateley led Mississippi State with a 4-under 67, the best individual round in the field during the second round. It was her first round in the 60s this season and the 13th of her career. Whateley is second individually at 5-under, two strokes behind the leader.

Avery Weed followed a 2-over opening round with a 1-under 70, moving up 25 spots into a tie for 14th. The round was the 56th par-or-better round of her career and her third this season.

Alicia Bellendir remained in the top 10 after an even-par round and is tied for eighth at 1-under. She has recorded three par-or-better rounds in her career. Alona Avery also shot even par and is tied for 12th, with back-to-back even-par rounds in her first two appearances as a Bulldog.

Moa Stridh shot even par and is tied for 20th at 2-over. Competing individually, Ines Belchior shot a 2-under 69 and climbed 36 spots, the second-biggest move in the field, to tie for 38th.

Florida leads the team standings at 8-under, followed by Mississippi State at 5-under. Arizona State and Vanderbilt are tied for third at even par. The Bulldogs will conclude the championship Sunday.
