Blue Mountain Christian opens SSAC play with 2-1 win over Andrew College

Blue Mountain Christian University opened its SSAC schedule with a 2-1 road victory over Andrew College, improving to 3-1-1 overall and 1-0 in conference play.

The Toppers controlled the attacking pressure, outshooting Andrew 17-6 and putting eight attempts on frame. Blue Mountain Christian limited Andrew to two shots on goal.

Alfonso Vasquez gave the Toppers the lead at the 35:17 mark, scoring his first goal of the season after Erick Braga helped set up the opportunity. Blue Mountain Christian held a 1-0 advantage at halftime.

Andrew equalized at 61:37 when Manuel Lopez scored off an assist from Paul Coaxum. Blue Mountain Christian responded just over seven minutes later, when Mateus Furio connected with Nicholas Vieira, who finished the opportunity at 68:43 to restore the lead. The goal was Vieira’s third of the season and stood as the game-winner.

Davi Vieira put an attempt on goal in the 51st minute, and Nicholas Vieira forced a save from Andrew goalkeeper Teagan Paulo in the 60th minute. Vasquez and Nicholas Vieira each finished with a goal and two shots on goal, while Dipanda Silva Jr. added two shots on goal.

Andrew had two late corner kicks but could not put another shot on goal as Blue Mountain Christian protected the lead and closed out its first conference victory of the season.
