Reeves welcomes Appalachian Regional Commission to Starkville

Mississippi Gov. Tate Reeves welcomed the Appalachian Regional Commission to Starkville in a Facebook post, saying the state will host the commission’s annual meeting and conference and that “we’re gonna show them how we do things in Mississippi!”

The Appalachian Regional Commission is a federal-state partnership that promotes economic development across the Appalachian region, which spans parts of 13 states from New York to Mississippi. The commission’s annual meeting typically brings together federal, state and local officials, business leaders and community organizations to discuss development projects and policy priorities.

Starkville is home to Mississippi State University and serves as a regional center for education and commerce in east-central Mississippi. Hosting the commission’s conference gives local and state leaders an opportunity to highlight projects, infrastructure needs and workforce initiatives that they say could benefit from Appalachian Regional Commission programs.

Reeves’ post did not provide additional details about the agenda, attendees or scheduled events. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
