Reeves praises Japan ties after meeting Ambassador Yamada
Gov. Tate Reeves wrote in a Facebook post that he recently visited with “my friend, Japanese Ambassador Yamada,” and said “Mississippi and Japan are stronger together.”
In the post, Reeves wrote that “Japan remains Mississippi’s Number One foreign direct investment partner, and we’re grateful for the opportunities our partnership creates,” and appended U.S. and Japanese flag emojis.
The governor’s remarks underscore long-standing economic ties between Japan and the United States. Japanese companies are major foreign investors in the U.S., particularly in manufacturing and the automotive supply chain, and state leaders often highlight such relationships when courting jobs and investment.
Ambassador Yamada, identified only by surname in the post, represents Japan’s diplomatic interests. Meetings between state officials and foreign envoys typically aim to strengthen economic and cultural links that can lead to business partnerships, trade and investment.
Details about the meeting, including its date and location, were not provided in the Facebook post. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
