MEMA posts photos of storm damage in Lamar, Lincoln counties

The Mississippi Emergency Management Agency said in a Facebook post that it continues to respond to severe weather that impacted communities across the state and shared photos of damage in Lamar and Lincoln counties.

MEMA said it is grateful to those who want to help during the recovery effort but urged volunteers to avoid self-deploying and to work through verified organizations or nonprofits already assisting in the affected areas. Coordinated volunteer efforts help ensure resources are used safely and effectively, the agency said.

The agency, which coordinates the state’s disaster response and works with local officials and nonprofit partners, said donations are welcome and that a list of needs, drop-off locations and operating hours is available on its website at msema.org/get-assistance/disaster-resources/disasters/may-6th-7th-severe-weather.

The images released by MEMA provide a visual record of damage as responders assess needs and prioritize assistance. This is a developing story. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
