Disaster Service Centers open for Mississippi storm, tornado survivors

Disaster Service Centers are open for survivors of the May 6-7 severe storms and tornadoes in Mississippi, emergency officials said. Centers operate in Franklin, Lamar, Lawrence and Wilkinson counties and in two locations in Lincoln County to help residents who suffered home or property damage.

Officials said staff at the centers can help residents complete FEMA applications, provide information on available state and local resources and connect applicants with U.S. Small Business Administration representatives about disaster loans.

The centers are open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturday from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. They are closed on Sundays. Officials emphasized that visiting a center is not required to apply for assistance.

Residents can also apply online at DisasterAssistance.gov, through the FEMA App or by calling 1-800-621-FEMA (3362). FEMA coordinates federal disaster assistance, and the SBA offers low-interest disaster loans to homeowners, renters and businesses after federally declared disasters.

If you were affected by the May storms, officials urged you to apply as soon as possible. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
