Jackson Police Training Academy to graduate 71st recruit class

The Jackson Police Training Academy will graduate its 71st Police Recruit Class tomorrow morning, the Jackson Police Department said in a Facebook post. The ceremony is scheduled from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at the Police Training Academy at 3000 St. Charles Street.

The department said this will be the first recruit class it has held in two years and the first to graduate under Chief RaShall Brackney’s leadership. The Facebook post said the department is “expecting great things” from the men and women who will join the ranks of sworn law enforcement officers.

Police academies provide classroom and practical instruction intended to prepare recruits for street duties, including training in patrol procedures, community policing, defensive tactics and firearms. Graduations signal the addition of newly certified officers who ordinarily move into patrol, investigations or community units.

The graduation is significant for staffing and community safety as the department integrates new officers under new leadership. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
