Applications open for Gulf Coast Restoration Fund
Applications for the Gulf Coast Restoration Fund are now open, a Facebook post announcing the program said. The post did not include a deadline or detailed application instructions.
The post also said a previous report found the Legislature often awards funds to projects that never submitted an application. It urged the Legislature to follow the established application process rather than directing money to what it described as lawmakers’ pet projects.
The Gulf Coast Restoration Fund provides grants for projects in the Gulf Coast region aimed at improving local infrastructure, ecosystem restoration and community resilience, according to general descriptions of such funds. Open application periods are intended to let local governments, nonprofits and other organizations compete for support through a transparent process.
Advocates and applicants often view open, clearly administered grant competitions as critical to ensuring that funds go to vetted projects that meet established criteria. The Facebook post did not provide further details about eligibility, award amounts or review timeline. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
