Through Friday, Tropical Depression Two is expected to produce 2 to 4 inches of rainfall, with locally higher totals around 6 inches along the Gulf Coast and adjacent inland locations from western Florida to the middle Texas coast, including portions of southern Mississippi, forecasters said.
These rainfall totals raise the risk of flash flooding and urban flooding in low-lying and poorly drained areas, and could create hazardous travel conditions. Tropical depressions can produce significant rainfall even when sustained winds remain below tropical storm strength.
A tropical depression is a tropical cyclone with maximum sustained winds below 39 mph, and it often warrants close monitoring because heavy rain can cause flooding and secondary hazards such as road closures and power outages.
