Greenville shooting leaves two injured
Greenville police are investigating an exchange of gunfire in the 200 block of North 9th Street that injured two people and damaged two vehicles and a residence. Officers responded about 8:51 p.m. after a shots-fired alert, according to the department’s account carried by MSNewsGroup.
Police said several unidentified occupants of a white sedan exchanged gunfire with people near a home. The injured people reached Delta Health System–The Medical Center by private vehicle; their conditions were not released in the report. Mississippi State beat Minnesota 38-13, scoring touchdowns on its first four drives. Kamario Taylor supplied 227 passing yards and three touchdown throws while adding 86 yards on the ground. Ole Miss turns toward a top-10 LSU matchup
Ole Miss defeated Charlotte 41-9 in Oxford, extending its home winning streak to 13 games. Trinidad Chambliss completed 23 of 26 passes for 226 yards and two touchdowns, while Kewan Lacy ran for two scores. Deuce Alexander caught eight passes for 76 yards, and Caleb Cunningham added six catches for 65.

Alcorn State erased a 14-point fourth-quarter deficit and beat Arkansas-Pine Bluff 53-51 in double overtime in Memphis. Valley earns its first win in Chicago
Mississippi Valley State defeated Lincoln of Pennsylvania 31-20 at Soldier Field to collect its first victory of the season. Quarterback Josh Brown, the Chicago Football Classic’s offensive MVP, passed for 243 yards and three touchdowns. Dayvian Bluitt supplied 143 receiving yards on four catches.
The Delta Devils converted 10 of 14 third downs and held the ball for more than 31 minutes. Their defense kept Lincoln scoreless in the fourth quarter. Valley, now 1-2, is scheduled to host Delta State on Sept. 19 at Rice-Totten Stadium.

Southern Miss volleyball reaches 8-1
Southern Miss swept Southern and Jackson State in Hattiesburg, moving to 8-1 for the program’s best start since its 9-0 opening in 2015. The Golden Eagles overcame late deficits in the first two sets against Southern before winning both weekend matches 3-0.
Sadie McAda finished the Jackson State match with 14 kills and 13 digs, her sixth double-double of the season. Across the two matches, Southern Miss recorded 84 kills and 16 aces. Next comes a trip to Memphis for matches against Memphis on Sept. 17 and Little Rock on Sept. 18.
