Yazoo County Sheriff’s Office joins Flock Safety camera system
The Yazoo County Sheriff’s Office announced in a Facebook post that it has joined the Flock Safety camera system and that the cameras are installed and operational.
The sheriff’s office, which serves Yazoo County in Mississippi, said the technology will help officers more effectively identify and apprehend wanted individuals and will serve as a deterrent to crime across the community.
The post said the initial deployment was made possible through grant funding and that officials are actively pursuing additional grants to expand coverage. The office said it is committed to using every available resource to keep Yazoo County safe.
Flock Safety provides automated license plate reader cameras used by many law enforcement agencies. Such systems have been adopted widely and have prompted debate over privacy and data retention even as officials cite their usefulness in solving crimes. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
