Flock camera helps Vicksburg police recover stolen vehicle, arrest woman

VICKSBURG, Miss. — A newly installed Flock license plate reader camera helped Vicksburg police recover a stolen vehicle and make an arrest late Wednesday, the department said.

Shortly after 10:30 p.m. on June 17, 2026, a Flock LPR alert in downtown Vicksburg identified a 2024 Mitsubishi Outlander reported stolen out of Texas, police said. Officers located the vehicle, conducted a traffic stop and detained the driver for questioning, the department said in a news release.

A passenger, 19-year-old Lanejah Dixon, was taken into custody after officers discovered she had an outstanding warrant through the Vicksburg Police Department, police said. Officers also found a Glock 10mm handgun equipped with a conversion kit in the vehicle; the firearm was seized as evidence and the stolen vehicle was towed.

Vicksburg Police Chief Larry Burns said the incident demonstrates the value of the department’s investment in license plate reader technology. “This case shows how effective these cameras can be in helping officers identify and locate stolen vehicles,” Burns said, noting that only half of the Flock cameras have been installed so far as the system is expanded. The case remains under investigation. This is a developing story and will be updated as more details emerge.
